cannot remove the trial version from my laptop August 15, 2008 Q. Qq the trial version appeared on my new vaio laptop. i didnt install it. however i am not finding an easy way to remove it. now the trial period has come towards the end, and every hour a popup comes up reminding me to renew the subscription. i could spend time figuring our how to remove the software. but i thought a better use of my time will be to write a review on amazon. will write another for the vaio laptop. virus removal? this software itself is a virus. i will purchase MS OneCare.
research this before buying! August 13, 2008 Honest Abe (USA) I bought the original Norton 360 and my opinion is that this product (even version 2.0) may be too buggy for the average PC user. However, I must admit that I upgraded to version 2.0 after purchasing Norton 360 original from a retail store (not Amazon). The initial install took a while, but was OK. I would get the occasional crash that others have talked about, but I could live with it. It slowed my Pentium M lap top with 512MB of RAM, and did not find an Adware issue that I had, which was found and fixed with another utility. Still I could live with it. That changed after upgrading to version 2.0. After the upgrade, I had issues that made me ditch it. The upgrade to 2.0 took forever and crashed a few times. It appeared to be great at first - even noticed some user interface improvements. However, I began to have network card issues after my first clean boot with version 2.0. The problem was that most of the time (not 100%!!) my wireless network card would not find any networks. I thought that this was a hardware issue and a coincidence, but it appears to Norton 360 version 2.0. Without Norton, the network card works 100% of the time. I tried changing firewall settings, etc... but nothing appeared to work, and the behavior seemed to be inconsistent. Of course, the built in help tried to access the internet! Luckily, I still had my trusty MAC to look for solutions online!!! Even uninstalling this product sort of a pain for me.. had to download a removal tool from Norton. Like others, I don't have time to debug this software on my machine. I will revert to my last anti-virus software option.
Absolute Junk The only thing it is good at is wasting my time August 11, 2008 Frustrated in Minneapolis Broke down frequently for numerous different reasons-always blamed on changing a firewall setting which I hadn't done. Fixing it required spending hours with customer support in India; all technicians had poor English skills. When I needed to restore an individual zapped file, after 30 minutes was told that Norton 360 could not restore an individual file. Technical service refused to connect me with someone of adequate technical and language skills, even after I said I was totally displeased and they agreed they had not fixed my problem. Symantec doesn't care as long as they get your money. I am tired of paying good money for poor products, and this is the poorest, not capable of the simplest tasks.Norton 360 Version 2.0
360 all around August 10, 2008 Henry C. Diem (Maple Shade, NJ USA) I was first introduced to 360 as a beta tester and enjoyed testing the product. I like the ease of installation. I like Norton products and have used them for years. All the companies I have worked for as a ME secured their PCs and networks. Have never been downed by rogues virus attacks. Will never use the other guys.
Defective Product With No Support August 9, 2008 Harold B. Hofmann 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had been using Norton 360 Version 1 for 10 months. It appeared to function as advertised, although one has no way of knowing whether it really works or not. I was offered an update to Version 2 as part of the 1 year subscription entitlement. Version 2 not only disallows the backups I carefully made under Version 1 (which means I cannot restore from them) but I can no longer even use Windows to back up my files nor use System Restore. So the most critical and basic security function no longer works under Version 2. What happens is that when you attempt to do a backup (or restore), Norton requires you to configure it (no problem with that), but you cannot do this because you no longer can set a local drive as the backup destination! So you can no longer use local hard drives or DVD drives or anything but their online backup space which you need to pay additional for, is not large enough, and which is, by definition, insecure since you have no control over it. Of course when you try to contact the company, you are faced with daunting obstacles. You may, of course, pay them extra so that you can talk to someone. Otherwise tough for you. Their online chat is a joke with wait times of an hour or more. They then disconnect you from the session and you have to restart from the bottom of the queue again. I never did get through to anyone which I gather is by design. At this point, I will go back to Version 1 which I hope I will be able to do successfully and then use a completely different product when my subscription expires. So be forewarned!
